Western Union/Grace Kennedy Remittance Services were named the exclusive sponsors of the 2014 True Blue All Girls Alumni Penalty Kick-off.  The event is a part of the 10th Annual Dennis Ziadie Cup and True Blue Weekend on March 21st – 23rd, 2014.  This is the 6th year Western Union/Grace Kennedy Remittance Services has sponsored this popular event.  Participating schools will have the opportunity to win two cash prizes: A $100 cash donation to the winning school and $50 cash donation to the second place school.

Schools that have participated in the True Blue All Girls Alumni Penalty Kick-off in previous years are: Camperdown High School Past Students’ Association Florida Chapter, Convent of Mercy Academy “ALPHA”, Immaculate Conception High School Alumnae Association, Queen’s High School Alumni Association, St. Andrew High Old Girls Association, St. Hugh’s Alumnae Association of South Florida, and Montego Bay High School Alumnae Assoc South Florida.

The True Blue weekend is an expansion from the annual Ziadie Cup soccer match between The St. George’s College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc. and The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc.   The annual match is in memory of Dennis Ziadie, who coached both schools to Manning Cup victories. This year will mark the 26th year of the death of Dennis Ziadie in a car crash in Mexico at the 1986 World Cup.  Last year’s match drew over 1500 spectators and supporters.

On Saturday, March 16th, 2013, the St. George’s College Old Boys defeated the Jamaica College Old Boys to claim the 2013 Ziadie Cup. It was their 7th Ziadie Cup win since the tournament began 9 years ago. The Jamaica College over-40 team beat the St. George’s College over-40 team 5-1 in the Grand Masters match. In the Under-40 Masters match, St. George’s College defeated Jamaica College 6-0. The Ziadie Cup trophy was awarded based on an aggregate score of both matches with St. George’s College winning 7-5.

In the opening 6-a-side soccer tournament, the Jamaica College Old BoysAssociation of Florida defeated the Kingston Technical Alumni Association 4-1 to claim the inaugural LIME True Blue 6V6 trophy. LIME will make a $400 cash donation to the winning school.

The Jamaican alumnae ladies displayed their skills in the Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/Western Union All Girls Schools Alumni Penalty Kick-off. The Immaculate Conception High School Alumnae Association emerged as the winner in the final round defeating the Convent Of Mercy Academy “Alpha” Florida Chapter in a very competitive kick-off tournament. Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/Western Union will make a $100 cash donation to the winning school and a $50 cash donation to the  school in second place.

Legendary Jamaican coach, Winston Chung-Fah, who recently received the FIFA Order of Merit, was in attendance at the True Blue Soccerfest . Also present were Miramar Commissioner Wayne Messam, Miramar Commissioner Elect Yvette Colbourne, Jamaica Deputy Consul General Dale Jones and former Jamaica Public Defender Howard Hamilton, QC.

Mr. Hamilton launched his U.S. book tour at Saturday’s event. His book, “Born to Defend”, chronicles the highs and lows of his 50-year legal career. He signed and presented books to Commissioner Wayne Messam, Commissioner Elect Yvette Colbourne, and Jamaica Deputy Consul General Dale Jones.

It was a great True Blue weekend as Jamaican nationals from around the world were able to reunite with old classmates from their high schools in Jamaica. Over 1,400 people attended the 3-day True Blue Weekend event, including the annual Ziadie Cup at the state-of-the-art soccer facility at Vizcaya Park. True Blue fans were treated to a weekend of fun, friends, food and exciting soccer matches.

Jamaican Olympic Team doctor to provide medical support at the True Blue Soccerfest 2013 – March 16, 2013, Miramar, Florida

Dr. Michael Douglas, founder of  Douglas Chiropractic, will be providing support for all the athletes participating in the True Blue Soccerfest & Ziadie Cup memorial match on March 16th, 2013 in Miramar, Florida.

“I am really excited about providing medical support and advice for everyoneat this years event” said Dr. Douglas, “Weekend warriors are even at more risk for injuries than Olympians, I am sure we will be very busy, but I hope not. I look forward to contributing to such an important community event.”

This past weekend, Dr. Douglas and his staff treated over 200 athletes in one day at the 5th Annual City of Miramar Track and Field Invitational.  He is also the Official Team Doctor for the Jamaica Olympic Team for over 19 years.

The 9th Annual True Blue Weekend will take place March 15th-17th, 2013. The 3-day event is hosted by The St. George’s College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc. (STGCOBAFL) and The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc. (JCOBAFL).
